Final Girl
A man teaches a young woman how to become a complete weapon. Later, she is approached by a group of sadistic teens who kill blonde women for unknown reasons. The hunting season begins.
My Thoughts on Final Girl
Decent setup
The “special project” premise is fairly unsettling to be fair, and is a half decent setup.
Problematic dynamics
The film leans into an uncomfortable relationship between Veronica and William, which overshadows the story, and where boundaries are just ignored.
Training montage
Veronica’s transformation into a killing machine is visually satisfying, even if the context is disturbing.
Weak motivations
William’s vague backstory and vigilante logic feel slightly arbitrary, and Veronica’s actions lack any meaningful context beyond serving him.
Small moments of humanity
Some of the brief interactions with Shane’s girlfriend at the diner are a nice touch, adding a tiny spark of empathy in an otherwise bleak story.
Horror elements underused
The fears manifest in predictable ways, and the Truth or Dare setup starts strong but loses suspense quickly.
Visual style
Small-town settings and the woods look good, and the fight scenes are choreographed decently.
Predictable climax
The showdown with Jameson is unsurprising, and the story never explores Veronica’s internal conflict or moral reasoning deeply enough.
Lead performance
Abigail Breslin is competent as Veronica, but her portrayal can’t overcome the thin character writing and problematic plot.
Execution issues
Plot holes, inconsistent tension, and the arbitrary vigilante framework make it difficult to take the story seriously, despite some interesting visuals and a decent set up.
Final Thoughts on Final Girl
It had some potential with its setup, but the longer it goes on the less I cared.
Fans of female-led revenge stories might be curious, but the film really struggles to deliver beyond its concept.
Final Score for trashy dumb fun – ⭐⭐⭐⭐½☆☆☆☆☆
UP: Setup, visual style, training montages, brief human moments, some choreography
DOWN: Problematic dynamics, weak motivations, predictable climax, inconsistent tension, thin lead characterization

A lover of cinema for over 35 years, I have watched many films from around the world in many different genres, yet I still normally always come back to trashy slasher horror films when in doubt. More
And yes, The Godfather 2 is better than The Godfather.
