A family gets trapped inside their house while something very strange happens outside, and The Last House has a genuinely good horror idea buried inside it.
Great review! You capture the strengths of this film (there are several) as well as its ultimate downfall. I like it when movies try something different, this one did do that and came close to pulling it off. They didn't stick the landing (at all) but I'm still glad I spent time with these characters in this situation. Some of it lingers in a good way!!
There is a weird shift in type halfway through: the study of a house-bound family to Lovecraftian survival horror. Makes the film feel unfinished.
