9 Underrated Zombie Films To Watch

Fancy watching a zombie film that is underrated? Well, underrated to me, anyway, so here are 9 to maybe consider watching – And as always, check out justwatch.com to see where they are streaming in your region.

The Night Eats the World (2018)

Weird little movie in the streets of an empty Paris, and it kind of unravels from there. Not much “big zombie action,” more pacing around and trying not to freak out.

The Battery (2012)

Much like The Night Eats the World, The Battery is more of a character-driven movie that focuses on the relationship struggles between two former baseball players, than on action packed zombie fights, and has been described as an “anti-zombie zombie movie.”

Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead (2014)

Chaos and DIY brilliance with some pure punk energy, this one’s a bit nuts, with lots of yelling, weird homemade armor, trucks, zombies exploding, the whole thing’s kinda bonkers. Fun tho.

Ravenous (Les Affamés) (2017)

Super quiet, and a bit slow yet beautiful, with zombies stacking chairs into weird piles that don’t make sense but somehow creep you out more than if they attacked.

It Stains the Sands Red (2016)

It Stains the Sands Red is kind of a weird film with a woman stuck in the desert, and one zombie just trudging after her nonstop. Sounds dumb but it ends up kinda emotional?? Hard to explain, but I liked it a lot.

Blood Quantum (2019)

Set on a First Nations reserve & the people there don’t turn, which already makes it way different from most zombie movies. Some really rough, intense scenes but the story underneath it all has real meaning. Not a “fun” zombie movie, more like a “damn ok” one.

The Dead (2010)

Shot in West Africa where the landscapes look amazing but also kinda bleak. Not a lot of dialogue, just long stretches of trying to survive and everything feeling sorta hopeless, with buckets of quiet atmosphere.

The Plague of the Zombies (1966)

While it is well regarded among the hammer horror fan elite, it’s also very underrated in my view, where the makeup is actually creepy, especially for the time, and has a strong gothic atmosphere vibe going for it.

Dance of the Dead (2008)

This one was a huge surprise when I watched it, and is way better than it has any right to be, and has that “made for fun” energy with absurd humor and heart, and plenty of tropes.

Simon Leasher

A lover of cinema for over 35 years, I have watched many films from around the world in many different genres, yet I still normally always come back to trashy slasher horror films when in doubt. More

And yes, The Godfather 2 is better than The Godfather.
