If you know anything about me, you will know I like watching low budget trashy horror films, for some of dumb fun and good to put on when I want to turn my brain off. and Tubi is the perfect platform to find them.

So I will be doing mini reviews, well more statements, about these films, much shorter than my other reviews, and my ratings for the films will generally be based on how much fun they are in a trashy dumb way, because not many of them are actually good in the objective sense.

Benny Loves You

After the accidental death of his parents, Jack’s comfortable lifestyle comes to an end as he sells the family home. Desperate to improve his life, Jack throws out all his childhood belongings — including a beloved plush animal named Benny. However, it’s a move that has disastrous consequences when Benny springs to life with deadly intentions.

My Thoughts

Chaos rules

From the moment Benny comes to life, everything just goes off the rails, and it’s a movie that knows it’s absurd and leans into it fully.

Dark, British humor

Gore meets jokes in ridiculous ways here, where some scenes land perfectly, and the tone never wavers.

Karl Holt is everywhere

He wrote, directed, produced, edited, and stars as Jack. Props to him.

Supporting cast holds up

Mostly solid performances, with a few stiff moments, but nothing that derails the chaos.

Low-budget effects fit the style

Benny never really looks truly alive, and the blood is obviously fake, but it all adds to the film’s intentionally over the top aesthetic.

Violence is absurd

Heads crushed, toys smashed, pugs endangered — it’s gross, funny, and ridiculous all at once.

Tone is consistent

Not scary, not subtle, but wildly entertaining. It’s British dark humor meets over the top slasher.

Soundtrack complements the madness

Montages, toy chaos, and murder all get a quirky, fitting audio backdrop.

Chaos and creativity

Benny’s kills are inventive, the destruction is constant, and the movie never stops trying to one up itself.

Absurd but oddly touching

Underneath the blood and chaos, there’s a theme about growing up without losing your childlike imagination, and somehow, it works quite well.

Pacing is relentless

No downtime here, as the movie throws you into one ridiculous scenario after another, keeping the energy high the whole way.

Jack’s journey is surprisingly relatable

Even amid absurd murders, his struggle with adulthood, responsibility, and creativity is oddly relatable in some ways.

Embrace the ridiculous

If you’re looking for logic, look elsewhere. Benny Loves You wants you to accept the madness and enjoy the ride.

Humor versus horror

It leans heavily on laughs rather than scares, and the “slasher” label is mostly for show, and that’s fine as the humor makes it work.

Final Thoughts on Benny Loves You

Benny Loves You is quite absurd in exactly the way it wants to be, and I had enough fun with it.

It’s not scary or polished, but it’s energetic, inventive, and fully committed to its absurd premise.

Final Score: 6 out of 10
UP: Karl Holt, absurd humor, chaotic kills, British dark comedy, relentless energy, creative deaths
DOWN: Low-budget effects, some stiff acting, not scary, obvious fake blood

A lover of cinema for over 35 years, I have watched many films from around the world in many different genres, yet I still normally always come back to trashy slasher horror films when in doubt. More

And yes, The Godfather 2 is better than The Godfather.
