My Thoughts on Carry On Screaming!
The horror parody
Carry On Screaming! lampoons Hammer horror with style – mad scientists, Gothic labs, and man-made monsters are all present, and exaggerated for laughs.
Energetic cast
Harry H. Corbett is brilliant as the hapless Bung, and Jim Dale brings charm to his role, while Joan Sims adds sharp wit – it’s exactly what you want from a Carry On film.
Ridiculous plot
Investigating Doris Mann’s disappearance leads to Oddbod, Dr. Watt, and cloned creatures, and the story is absurd in a good way – comedy over logic.
Classic Carry On humor
Slapstick, puns, and wordplay, where the film also nods to Abbott & Costello’s routines – It’s a unique style of old humor but one I like.
Strong visual style
Despite a tiny budget, the sets, lighting, and Hammer-inspired labs are impressive.
Supporting characters
Fenella Fielding as Valeria, Charles Hawtrey, and Jon Pertwee all add energy and memorable moments.
Clever homages
The parody shows respect for classic horror conventions.
Fun chemistry
The cast clearly enjoyed themselves, where their enthusiasm translates onto the screen.
The Gags
The gags are ridiculous but memorable.
Music and sound add charm
The playful theme song and dramatic sound cues really help heighten the parody.
Physical comedy wins
The physical humor really drives many of the laughs and feels timeless.
Pacing keeps it lively
Even with a bit of a convoluted plot, the film maintains momentum overall, although it does have its pacing issues at times, but nothing major.
Final Thoughts on Carry On Screaming!
Carry On Screaming! is certainly a unique taste, and as someone who grew up around British humor, I liked it, as it’s just pure trashy fun.
So if you’re a fan of Carry On and classic horror and physical humor alike, you will no doubt appreciate the overall charm of this one.
My Rating For Trashy Dumb Fun – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐½☆☆
UP: Energetic cast, slapstick humor, clever parody, visual inventiveness, ensemble chemistry, memorable gags, music and sound, clever references
DOWN: Slightly uneven pacing, some absent Carry On regulars, convoluted plot, minor filler scenes

A lover of cinema for over 35 years, I have watched many films from around the world in many different genres, yet I still normally always come back to trashy slasher horror films when in doubt. More
