If you know anything about me, you will know I like watching low budget trashy horror films, for some of dumb fun and good to put on when I want to turn my brain off. and Tubi is the perfect platform to find them.

So I will be doing mini reviews, well more statements, about these films, much shorter than my other reviews, and my ratings for the films will generally be based on how much fun they are in a trashy dumb way, because not many of them are actually good in the objective sense.

All my Tubi horror film reviews

The Man in Room 6

A socially troubled young woman named Carrie meets an elderly man in a nursing home who claims to be immortal, cursed to never die. When the old man goes missing, Carrie is implicated in his murder.

My Thoughts

Ambitious structure

The film attempts a lot, as it weaves multiple stories together, and some are certainly stronger than others.

Length drags

It’s a fairly long film, especially for a low budget film, which does make it a slow watch, and add the confusing story at times too and I think a lot of people will understandably zone out here at some point.

Acting

Bill Oberst Jr dominates here with a pretty commanding presence, and overall the ensemble mostly works, though a couple feel miscast.

Practical effects

Old man makeup and effects are pretty convincing and expressive, and although the budget limits show occasionally, overall it’s decent enough..

Cinematography impresses

Three cinematographers, two editors, yet a consistent visual tone.

Some sequences feel weak

A few stories or characters drag or feel out of place, and removing or tightening these would have given the stronger parts more impact, and cut down a bit on the runtime.

Attention to detail

Juenger clearly cared about every visual element.

Visual consistency

Despite multiple collaborators, the film does maintain a consistent look and tone, which is again impressive for a low budget indie production.

Ambitious but uneven

The ambition is impressive, but the runtime and pacing issues prevent it from fully reaching its potential.

Worth the investment if…

For anyone willing to sit through this and put up with some slowness, it does offer some emotional moments, and unique stories, and your patience is somewhat rewarded.

Final Thoughts on The Man in Room 6

The Man in Room 6 definitely won’t be for everyone, and I understand why – hell, I am not even sure it was for me, but it was an intriguing indie horror experience though.

It’s definetly not a popcorn flick though, that’s for sure.

Final Score: 5.5 out of 10
UP: Bill Oberst Jr, Jackie Kelly, practical effects, cinematography, production design, layered storytelling
DOWN: Length, pacing, weak sequences, uneven story quality

A lover of cinema for over 35 years, I have watched many films from around the world in many different genres, yet I still normally always come back to trashy slasher horror films when in doubt. More

And yes, The Godfather 2 is better than The Godfather.
